Privacy Policy
Looking Back is a private notebook of dates: the moments you want to remember and the ones coming up. It is built so that your information stays with you.
What the app stores
- The events you add: titles, dates, notes, tags, and the history of routines you mark done.
- The people, pets, vehicles, and homes you add, including names, relationships, and birth dates if you enter them.
- Photos you choose to attach to an event or a person.
- Your settings, such as reminder time and display preferences.
All of this is stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on for the app, it is also stored in your private iCloud database, which only your Apple account can read. Apple's iCloud terms apply to that storage.
What the app does not do
- It does not create accounts, and it never asks for an email address or password.
- It does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind.
- It does not send your events, people, notes, or photos to us or to any third party.
- It does not read your calendar, contacts, or photo library. Photos reach the app only when you pick one or share one into it.
Photos and on-device intelligence
When you attach a photo, the app reads the date and location saved inside the photo file, looks for text in the picture, and describes what it shows. This happens on your phone using Apple's on-device frameworks. The one exception is turning a location into a place name, which asks Apple's geocoding service for a town name from one coordinate; no photo or other information is sent with it. The words you type to describe a moment are processed on your phone by Apple Intelligence and are not sent to us.
Reminders
Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. No notification server is involved.
Sharing
When you use Share, the card, sentence, or calendar file you chose goes only where you send it, through the iOS share sheet.
Your data is yours
Settings includes Download My Data, which produces a single file with everything the app holds, Import My Data, which reads such a file you choose and adds it to what is on the device, and Delete My Data, which removes everything from the device. Deleting the app removes its data from the device; data in your private iCloud database is removed when you delete it from the app or turn off iCloud for the app.
Children
Looking Back is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
